On January 16, 2026, the 2025 year-end summary meeting of the Sichuan Provincial Lighting Appliance Association and the Wuhou District industrial promotion event, with the theme of "Smart Lighting, Low-carbon Future - Building a New Highland for the AI Lighting Industry in Western China," were successfully held. At the meeting, the launch ceremony of the "AIGC Lighting Innovation Design Award" became a major highlight. This award is a new special category under the "Asia Lighting Design Award," hosted by the Asian Association of Lighting Designers (AALD), organized by Lighting Media, and supported by AI technology from Zhongzhao Jinzhi.

At the launch ceremony, Professor Yan Yonghong delivered a speech. She pointed out, "Today's industry is being reshaped by AI technology: lighting design is also undergoing a brand-new digital and intelligent transformation. This is the backdrop against which we are launching the 'AIGC Lighting Innovation Design Award' as a special category under the Asia Lighting Design Award. It is not a replacement for the regular award but a precise supplement that aligns with the trends of the times—the regular award represents the present of the industry, while the special award represents its future; the regular award focuses on the value of project implementation, while the special award focuses on creative breakthroughs driven by AIGC."

Applications for the 11th Asia Lighting Design Award opened on December 31, 2025. The introduction of this special award is both a response to the reshaping of the industry by AI technology and an effort to储备 (stockpile/reserve, here "reserve" is used for better fluency) "sources of innovation" for the new highland of the AI lighting industry in Wuhou District, Chengdu. In addition to the special award, this year's awards also feature six competition categories: individual buildings, temporary structures, road, bridge and park lighting, indoor spaces, cultural and tourism lighting, and light and shadow art. Eligible projects for application must be completed in Asia between 2023 and 2025, or projects in other regions led by Asian designers/AALD members.

The launch of the special award has also received support from industry organizations such as the China Lighting Industry Association. With the successful conclusion of the launch ceremony, the AIGC Lighting Innovation Design Award has officially entered the stage of soliciting entries. Industry insiders predict that this award will give rise to a number of benchmark lighting designs driven by both "technology and art."
